(WASHINGTON, DC) - On Sunday, September 1, 2013, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz issued directives to allocate $200 million to help Palestinian cities build infrastructure, expand drinking water purification plants, build and upgrade hospitals and maintain health, education and social service centers.

 

This funding will be supported by the Islamic Development Bank and UN-Habitat, a United Nations program designed to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities.

In May, Saudi Arabia contributed $86 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) for projects in the West Bank, Lebanon and Gaza. In January, the Kingdom contributed $100 million to the Palestinian Authority to help it overcome its financial difficulties. These contributions are in addition to Saudi Arabia’s commitment to the Palestinian Authority through the Arab League.
