In response to media inquiries, the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia wishes to confirm that Ambassador to the United States, Prince Bandar bin Sultan, continues in his position as Ambassador to the United States. Prince Bandar is currently on vacation and is expected to return to his office at the end of August.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - Saudi security forces have arrested five individuals, all of Chadian nationality, suspected of terrorist activity, including efforts to finance an Al-Qaeda cell by carrying out a series of armed robberies in Jeddah over a two-month period last year. Three of the suspects are connected to the murder of French citizen Laurent Barbot on September 25, 2004, and to the robbery at the British Airways office in Jeddah on August 25, 2004.

Public awareness campaign aims to educate Saudi citizens about the realities and danger of extremism and terrorism
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hosting delegates from over 50 countries, including 15 from the Arab World, as well as representatives from several international organizations, for the first Counter-Terrorism International Conference. The event, being held in Riyadh February 5-8, aims to develop specific proposals for improving bilateral, regional and international cooperation on counter-terrorism. The conference will also focus on improving capabilities to combat terror financing, money laundering, and drug trafficking.

Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank pledges $500 million
(WASHINGTON, DC) - An ongoing national fundraising event on Saudi television has raised more than $65 million in cash as of midnight Riyadh time (4 p.m., Thursday, EST) to donate to the victims of the tsunami. Proceeds from this fundraiser, held January 6, are in addition to the $30 million in aid Saudi Arabia has pledged thus far. This amount does not include in-kind contributions from Saudi citizens and companies. The first planes carrying relief supplies began arriving in the region on Sunday, January 2.
(WASHINGTON, DC) - The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is tripling its emergency humanitarian aid to the victims of the tsunami in the Indian Ocean region to U.S. $30 million in view of the recent assessment of the magnitude of the tragedy. The Kingdom’s assistance will be coordinated with United Nations agencies in order to ensure speedy and effective delivery of aid to the victims of this disaster. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will continue to reassess the situation.
