Kingdom has approved over $135 million in aid projects for Somalia

Dr. Saed Al-Orabi Al-Harthi, Advisor to the Minister of Interior, received in Riyadh today Alessandra Morelli, Representative of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) for Somalia. During their meeting, cooperation between the Saudi National Campaign for the Relief of the Somali People and the UNHCR was reviewed.

Dr. Al-Harthi noted that the Kingdom is currently implementing or has approved projects and programs in Somalia worth SR 508 million [$135.44 million].

The UNHCR representative also met with Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) President Prince Faisal bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz to discuss the Somali refugee crisis. Morelli expressed her organization’s appreciation of the efforts exerted by the Saudi government to implement humanitarian relief programs. The SRCA has recently provided $450,000 in donations to help alleviate the suffering of displaced Somalis.
