The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has congratulated the Palestinian people on gaining observer state status at the United Nations, a development that reflects the international community’s support for their legitimate right to an independent, sovereign state.
In his address at the 5th Session of the Arab-Turkish Cooperation Forum in Istanbul today, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal said, “We consider this recognition a good step that anticipates the possibility of a positive change in the way the U.N. deals with the Palestinian cause, [about which], unfortunately, the Security Council has been paralyzed for so long over the last decade.”
He added, “We hope that the Security Council regards positively the decision of the international majority, taking it as an incentive for peace within the framework of its key responsibility in the maintenance of international peace and security. This matter places us face to face with the necessity of depending on our own capabilities in dealing with our issues rather than on others.”
