20.5% more pilgrims over last year

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz today thanked Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior and President of Hajj Supreme Committee, for the success of this year's Hajj season.  King Abdullah said that 2,789,399 pilgrims participated in this year’s Hajj, an increase of 476,121 over last year.  Domestic pilgrims accounted for 989,798, of which about 60% are Saudi nationals.

The total figure does not include pilgrims without valid Hajj permits, which last year totaled over 750,000.
