Syrian mob storms Saudi Embassy in Damascus
November 12, 2011
A group of protesters gathered outside the Saudi Embassy in Damascus at approximately 6pm on Saturday and began throwing stones, an official at the Saudi Foreign Ministry has reported. Subsequently, the mob stormed the building, an action that Syrian security forces failed to take the necessary measures to prevent. The demonstrators ransacked parts of the Embassy before finally being removed by the Syrian forces.
The entire incident has been strongly condemned by the Kingdom. “As the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia strongly condemns this incident, Syrian authorities should shoulder the responsibility for the security and protection of Saudi interests and employees in Syria under international conventions and treaties,” the Foreign Ministry official stated.
