Saudi Arabia calls for Palestine’s accession to UNESCO
September 16, 2009
Saudi Arabia has called upon the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to approve the request of Palestine for membership. The call came during a speech delivered by the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr. Ziad Al-Drees, on behalf of the Saudi Deputy Minister of Education and UNESCO Executive Board member, Faisal bin Muammar. Speaking at the Executive Board’s 182nd session currently underway in Paris, Al-Drees noted that Palestine’s request has been on the agenda of UNESCO’s Executive Board and General Conference for twenty years, but no action has been taken.
