Saudi Nationals Safe in the Wake of Hurricane Ike

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Saudi nationals in Texas are safe after Hurricane Ike battered the Gulf Coast of the United States yesterday. 

The Saudi consulate in Houston evacuated Saudi students and medical patients in the coastal areas to safety inland, Undersecretary Prince Khalid bin Saud said in a statement today.

Ike made landfall in the Galveston, Texas area early yesterday morning with winds of approximately 110 mph. The hurricane season in the US generally begins in June and ends in November.

The Houston consulate has published a pamphlet informing Saudis living in the hurricane zone about of the dangers of hurricanes and educating them about the precautions that should be taken in the event of a hurricane or other type of natural disaster.
