King Abdullah chairs weekly Cabinet meeting

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah yesterday.
King Abdullah congratulated the people of Saudi Arabia, Arabs and Muslims around the world on the advent of Ramadan, which began yesterday. The King called on all Muslims to demonstrate the values of tolerance, cooperation and unity during the holy month.

Turning to foreign affairs, the Cabinet welcomed the August 30 visit by Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani as a boost to bilateral relations between the two countries.

In addition, the Cabinet approved an agreement with Chad on combating terrorism, illegal trafficking and drug smuggling.

On domestic issues, the Cabinet ordered the payment of a number of allowances and bonuses for faculty members in universities in Saudi Arabia.

It also authorized the reduction of customs tariffs on exported raw leather by 20 percent annually.
