King Abdullah chairs Cabinet meeting

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet meeting at Al Salam Palace in Jeddah today, during which he briefed the ministers on his latest contacts with foreign officials, including two telephone calls he received from Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Addressing the Middle East peace process, the Cabinet once again stressed the danger posed by Palestinian in-fighting, calling upon the leaders of the various factions to resolve their disputes and work together to achieve an independent Palestinian state.
Regarding Lebanon, the Cabinet expressed confidence that the Lebanese will successfully form a national unity government, which will lead to national security, stability and prosperity.
The Cabinet lauded the arrests made recently by Kuwaiti security forces of members of a terrorist network. In addition, the ministers extended their condolences to Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Sabah, the Kuwaiti people and the families of the victims of a fire in Al-Jahra province that killed over forty women and children on Saturday.
Moving on to domestic issues, King Abdullah directed all officials to exert their utmost efforts to ensure the comfort and safety of visitors to Saudi Arabia during the Umrah and Hajj seasons. The King urged health officials to strictly abide by his directives that all government and private hospitals treat cases of swine flu in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and international standards. Citizens, expatriates, and pilgrims will all be provided the necessary medical care at the expense of the state, he added.
After reviewing its agenda items, the Cabinet approved raising the organizational level of the two municipalities of the provinces of Taif and Ahsa; approved the linkage of the municipalities of Al-Khormah, Raniah, Trobah and Al-Moaih and the transfer of two village complexes in Misan and Bani Saad from the municipality of Makkah to the municipality of Taif province; approved the linkage of the municipalities of Al-Hafoof, Al-Mobaraz, Alo’yoon, Alo’mran, Al-Jafr, Yabreen to the municipality of Ahsa province; approved the establishment of a joint stock company named “The Al-Ameen Balad Company for Development and Construction Development;” authorized the governor of the Technical and Vocational Training Corporation to sign a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of technical and vocational training with the Ministry of Education in Ireland; and approved the final statement of accounts of the Grain Silos and Flour Mills Corporation for fiscal year 1427/1428 H.
The Cabinet appointed Mohammad Al-Rafeeq as Advisor for Secret Affairs at the Interior Ministry (15th rank); Khaled Al-Angari as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Foreign Ministry, Hamad Al-Milhim as Director General of Private Education at the Ministry of Higher Education (14th rank); Abdulraoof Al-Qaedi as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Inspection and Work Relations at the Ministry of Labor; and Ahmad Al-Homaidan as Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Saudis’ Employment at the Ministry of Labor (14th rank.)
