Jeddah-based OIC denounces Iraq suicide bombings

July 30, 2008

The Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference has condemned the July 28 suicide bombings in Iraq.

In a statement, Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu warned that the attacks in Baghdad and Kirkuk will exacerbate an already volatile security situation in Iraq and deepen the cycle of violence.

Ihsanoglu condemned those responsible for the “deplorable and senseless crimes which are against all the sacred values and teachings of Islam.”

He also called on the Iraqi people to show restraint and avoid provocative actions that threaten Iraqi unity.
