July 24, 2012

Saudi Arabia is participating in the AIDS 2012 Conference and is represented by Dr. Mohsen Al-Hazmi, member of the Majlis Ash-Shura (Consultative Council), and Mr. Abdullah Al-Aiban, researcher at the Majlis Ash-Shura's Inter-Parliamentary Unit.

Last year, Saudi Arabia donated $25 million to the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Saudi Arabia is among the largest international donors to humanitarian appeals, when measured as a percentage of its economy, with official development assistance (ODA) averaging 1.26 percent gross national income (GNI) during the period 1973–2008, more than twice the United Nations target of 0.7 percent, according to a 2010 World Bank report.
