Royal Court announces passing of Prince Fawaz, son of King Abdulaziz

Prince Fawaz bin Abdulaziz, 74, passed away today after suffering from an illness, the Royal Court announced in a statement.

Prince Fawaz was a son of the late King Abdulaziz and brother of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. He previously served as Governor of both Riyadh and Makkah Provinces.

In December 2007, Prince Fawaz was named one of 35 members of the Allegiance Commission, which was established as part of a new law of succession announced in October 2006 to formalize the royal succession and ensure a smooth transfer of power.

Funeral prayers will be held for the prince at the Holy Mosque in Makkah after sunset prayers tomorrow.
