Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah today.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz is currently in Morocco for a private visit before opening the World Conference on Dialogue in Madrid June 16.
The Cabinet welcomed King Abdullah’s call for interfaith dialogue and his patronage of the upcoming Madrid conference. It expressed the hope that the conference would serve as a springboard for future dialogue among religions and cultures.
On other international issues, the Cabinet noted the visit by King Hamad of Bahrain and his talks with Crown Prince Sultan as a boost to bilateral relations.
On Lebanon, it welcomed the formation of a national unity government as a step towards ending the political crisis and establishing about security and stability.
The Cabinet approved Saudi Arabia’s accession to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, which is aimed at protecting nuclear material and facilities and providing for penalties for breaches.
It also approved a national strategy for the preservation of biological diversification.
In addition, the Cabinet authorized a draft agreement for extension and amendment between the Saudi government and the Saudi Arabian Chevron Company. It also approved the establishment of the Saudi Arabian Company for Investment (Saudi Sanabel) and a draft youth sports cooperation agreement with Turkey.
