OIC Executive Committee recommends Syrian suspension

The extraordinary Ministerial Meeting of the Executive Committee of Organization of Islamic Cooperation, meeting in Jeddah, recommended today to suspend Syrian membership in the Islamic organization. The Executive Committee also urged the world community to discuss the situation in Syria during its forthcoming meeting in Djibouti under Chapter 7 of the United Nations Charter and called on the UN to shoulder its full responsibility to put an end to the violence and bloodshed in Syria. It reiterated its strong support for Annan's plan and implementation within a specific timetable. The meeting also denounced the shooting down of a Turkish fighter, describing it as a serious threat to regional security and stability.
