Crown Prince receives U.S. Secretary of Defense

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz received U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta and his accompanying delegation at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah today. At the outset of the audience, the Crown Prince welcomed Panetta, valuing his visit to the Kingdom. For his part, Panetta conveyed the condolences of U.S. President Barack Obama and the American government and people on the death of Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, emphasizing the depth of U.S.-Saudi relations. Furthermore, he expressed President Obama’s apologies for being unable to offer his condolences in person. Subsequently, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and the latest developments in the regional and international arenas.
The meeting was attended by Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz; Interior Minister Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz; Chief of General Intelligence Prince Miqren bin Abdulaziz; President of the Crown Prince’s Court Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz; Assistant Interior Minister for Security Affairs Prince Mohammed bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz; Minister of State Dr. Musaed Al-Aiban; U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom James Smith; and a number of senior U.S. officials.
