Saudi Ambassador attends UN Convention on Law of the Sea meeting

Saudi Ambassador to the US Adel A. Al-Jubeir led the Kingdom’s delegation to the 18th meeting of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea in New York yesterday. The meeting began June 13 and will conclude June 20.

Afterwards, Ambassador Al-Jubeir attended a luncheon held in his honor by the Saudi Permanent Representative to the UN Abdellatif Salam.

Adopted on December 10, 1982, the Convention on the Law of the Sea entered into force on November 16, 1994. Its 320 articles and nine annexes govern all aspects of ocean space and maritime issues, from navigational rights, maritime limits and marine scientific research to the management of resources, protection of the marine environment and settlement of disputes. Saudi Arabia ratified the Convention in 1996.
