Saudi Arabia today expressed concern about the deteriorating security situation in Iraq and blamed sectarian politics for fueling the crisis. During its weekly meeting, the Council of Ministers blamed the crisis on the sectarian and exclusionary policies of the Baghdad government over the past years, which they said have threatened Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty.

The Cabinet stressed the need to preserve Iraq's sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity. Furthermore, the Cabinet rejected foreign meddling in Iraq’s internal affairs and urged quick formation of a national consensus government to work on restoring security and stability to the country, avoiding policies based on religious and sectarian instigation as currently practiced in Iraq. The Cabinet also emphasized the importance of exerting all efforts to protect civilians and alleviate their sufferings.
