May 21, 2013

Updating a prior announcement about the arrest of eighteen members of a cell spying for the Iranian intelligence services, the Security Spokesman of the Ministry of Interior has issued a statement detailing additional arrests. “Investigations conducted by the relevant security services have led to the detention of ten more individuals for their involvement in espionage acts for this cell,” the statement said. “They include eight Saudi citizens and two foreign residents (Lebanese and Turkish). The Lebanese resident of the first group was released due to lack of evidence of his association with the members of the cell. This brings the total arrested in this case to 27, of whom 24 are Saudi nationals and three foreign residents (Iranian, Turkish and Lebanese). The formal proceedings will be completed as a prelude to their referral to the judicial bodies.”
