Kidnapped German girls secured by Saudi security forces

Saudi security forces, in cooperation with their counterparts in Yemen, successfully recovered two German girls who were among a group of people kidnapped last year in the border region, a security spokesman at the Saudi Ministry of Interior has reported. The girls were brought on Monday to a secure place inside the Kingdom, where they underwent medical tests, and are expected to return soon to Berlin.

German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressed his gratitude to Saudi and Yemeni officials in a statement to the press in Berlin yesterday. He noted that the girls are in good condition, despite the trauma they endured during their kidnapping ordeal. Westerwelle also praised the efforts of Saudi, Yemeni and German officials to free the remaining hostages.
