The Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today expressed support for the unity of Sudan and condemned any attempt to destabilize the country. This weekend, armed rebels from Darfur launched an attack on Khartoum.

In a statement, Secretary-General Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah highlighted GCC support for the Sudanese government’s efforts to resolve the crisis in Darfur through dialogue. He also urged the international community to exert greater efforts to promote a peaceful resolution to the crisis.
