Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (5/6/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon. The Cabinet began by congratulating the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz on the eighth anniversary of his ascension to the throne. It praised the King’s efforts in a variety of fields, pointing to the numerous advances made in the Kingdom during his reign. The Cabinet also thanked the King for ordering the compensation of the victims of recent heavy rains and flooding, praising his concern for the well-being of his people.
Turning to international relations, the Cabinet reviewed the latest contacts between Saudi and foreign leaders, including the talks between King Abdullah and visiting Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. It also expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Syria and condemned the Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, calling on the U.N. Security Council to prevent a repetition of the strikes.
On the domestic front, the ministers reviewed the cultural and scientific conferences held in the Kingdom during the past week. These included the 13th Scientific Forum on the Research of Hajj and Umrah; the 4th Scientific Conference for Students in the Kingdom; and the 2nd Regional Seminar on Fighting Narcotics and Information Exchange.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet authorized the Minister of Foreign Affairs to sign a draft memorandum of understanding between the Saudi Foreign Ministry and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA); authorized the Minister of Interior to sign a draft cooperation agreement in the field of combating crimes with Albania; accredited the two final accounts of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund and a guarantee program for funding small and medium-sized enterprises for fiscal year 1432/1433 H.; authorized the Minister of Water and Electricity to sign a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of water with Morocco; approved the amendment of a law concerning land grants to charitable foundations; and approved two final accounts of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization for fiscal year of 1432/1433 H.
