Saudi Embassy hosts annual Passport DC Event

May 4, 2013

The Saudi Embassy in Washington, D.C. participated in the sixth annual Passport DC event today, opening its doors to the public and displaying Saudi culture through exhibits, performances and activities.

“The Embassy is pleased to participate in Passport DC for the fifth consecutive year,” Saudi Ambassador Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir said in a statement. “This event gives us the opportunity to share our traditions with local visitors and residents in hopes of providing a greater cultural understanding of Saudi Arabia.”

Visitors to the Embassy had the opportunity to participate in several activities, including dressing up in traditional Saudi clothing, receiving henna paintings on their hands and having their names written in Arabic calligraphy. In addition, guests were treated to Saudi cuisine and watched a traditional dance performed by a group of students.

Passport DC is organized by Cultural Tourism DC, an independent nonprofit coalition of more than 230 community-based organizations. The month-long event kicked off today with the Around the World Embassy Tour, in which more than forty embassies put on cultural events for the public.
