Eleven militants arrested by Saudi security forces
April 7, 2009
Eleven members of a clandestine deviant group were apprehended at their mountain hideout in the vicinity of Saudi Arabia’s southern border, an Interior Ministry official confirmed today.
The men, who had contacts with extremists based outside of the Kingdom, had plans to launch attacks against security personnel, carry out abductions, and commit other violent acts to finance their criminal activities.
According to the official, close monitoring and quick follow-up by security forces resulted in the discovery of the cell. Food stocks, weapons, ammunition, photography equipment and other supplies were also found at the hideout.
An immediate investigation into the men, all of whom are Saudis, has been launched.
