OIC condemns Israeli settlement expansion in Jerusalem

April 5, 2011

The Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu today strongly condemned the Israeli government’s decision to build 942 Jewish settlement housing units in Al-Quds (Jerusalem).  Professor Ihsanoglu said such moves are considered serious act of aggression and an open war against the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights.

Prof. Ihsanoglu stressed that Israel's continued illegal practices, whose aim is to isolate Jerusalem from its surroundings, and to create new facts on the ground is a blatant challenge to international law and international legitimacy resolutions and Geneva Conventions.  The Secretary General also urged the Middle East Quartet (United Nations, Russian Federation, United States and European Union) and the international community to intervene to stop all forms of settlement as affecting the rights of the Palestinian people.
