Arab summit concludes in Damascus

The 20th Arab summit concluded in Damascus yesterday. The Saudi delegation to the summit was led by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League Ahmed Kattan.

In a declaration read by Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa, Arab countries highlighted their commitment to Arab solidarity, the implementation of Arab resolutions and strengthening the role of the Arab League.

The declaration warned that Israel’s actions in the Palestinian territories have gone too far, especially in Gaza, and called for an immediate halt to such hostilities. It also called on the UN Security Council to take action so that humanitarian aid can reach the Palestinian people.

Also regarding the Palestinian issue, the declaration affirmed its commitment to reaching a just and comprehensive peace based on the principle of land-for-peace and the Madrid conference.

On other issues, the declaration urged Iraqis to achieve national reconciliation and expressed support for the Arab League initiative in Lebanon. It also called for greater Arab economic cooperation and denounced all forms of terrorism.
