OIC condemns Dutch film that defames Islam

The Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference has condemned a film by Dutch MP Geert Wilders.

In a statement today, OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said that the film, called “Fitna,” defames Islam and has offended Muslims around the world. It discriminates against Muslims, stirs up anti-Muslim sentiment and undermines global peace and stability, he noted.

Since the Dutch government and the international community voiced opposition to the film, its production is a challenge to the nations of the world, Ihsanoglu stated.

It also underscores the importance of enacting UN legislation to prohibit provocative acts such as this one that foster violence and hatred, legislation that the OIC has called for in the past, the secretary-general said
