Arab Interior Ministers issue final communiqué

March 23, 2009

The 26th Session of the Arab Interior Ministers Council concluded in Beirut today with the release of a final communiqué stressing the importance of inter-Arab security cooperation

The Council approved a number of recommendations submitted by chiefs of police, anti-terror authorities, immigration, passports and nationality officials, tourism security personnel, traffic police, punitive and reformatory foundations, and border, airport and port security authorities.

The Saudi delegation to the meeting was led by Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz. Speaking to the press after the meeting, Prince Nayef noted that the call for Arab reconciliation by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz at the recent Kuwait summit has had a positive impact on inter-Arab cooperation, not only the security arena, but also in the social, economic, political and intellectual fields.

Before returning to Riyadh this evening, Prince Nayef was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Political Science by the Lebanese University, during a ceremony attended by Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Al-Siniora.
