King Abdullah chairs Cabinet session (3/12/12)

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today. At the outset, the Cabinet wished Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz, who underwent routine medical tests in Cleveland, Ohio last week, continuing good health. Then, King Abdullah gave a briefing on his recent consultations with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir.
Discussing the latest developments in the Arab world, the Cabinet hailed the decisions issued by 137th session of the Arab League Foreign Ministers Council regarding joint Arab action in the political, economic, and security fields. The ministers reiterated the Kingdom’s position that the Syrian crisis has reached a point requiring quick and serious action that will offer the Syrian people a glimmer of hope that their cruel ordeal, which escalates every day, will soon end. They also condemned the latest Israeli massacres in the besieged Gaza Strip that have killed more than 20 people and injured dozens more, appealing to the international community deter Israel from continuing to violate the human rights of the Palestinian people.
Turning to local issues, the Cabinet reviewed the economic and scientific activities that took place in the Kingdom last week, including the awarding of the King Faisal International Prize for 2012 and the holding of the Second Saudi Industrial Manufacturing Forum. The ministers were also briefed on a number of development projects that have been launched in various parts of the country. They welcomed the completion of the first phase of the project of the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Development Housing in Jazan Province, which involved the construction of 2,000 housing units.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet approved a number of measures involving the organization and responsibilities of the Civil Defense Council; authorized the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority to sign a draft Memorandum of Cooperation between the Saudi General Commission for Civil Aviation and the U.S. Transport Security Administration (TSA) in the field of civil aviation security; approved a Memorandum of Understanding for integration and exchange of information in the field of Urban Planning between the Saudi Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and the Moroccan Ministry of Housing, Construction and Scope Development; approved extending for a period of three years, beginning from fiscal year 1433/1434H., the enforcement of Paragraph (1) of the arrangements taken to address the obstacles facing the contracting sector according to Cabinet decision No. (23); and extended for a period of three years, beginning from fiscal year 1433/1434H., the enforcement of Paragraph (1) of the rules and procedures for addressing the delay in implementing government projects according to Cabinet decision No. (155).
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Dr. Musaed Al-Faryan as Director General of Consultations at the Institute of Public Administration (15th rank); Abdulrahman bin Mohammed Ameen Ahmad as Director General of Financial Affairs at the General Directorate of the Armed Forces Medical Services at the Ministry of Defense (14th rank); Dr. Hamad Al-Hajri as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Abdullah Al-Arfaj as Undersecretary of the Mayor for Construction and Projects at the Ahsa Governorate (14th rank); and Abdullah Al-Abdulsalam as Assistant Undersecretary of Support Programs at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank).
