Saudi diplomat killed in Bangladesh

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today that at 11 pm on Monday, March 5, 2012, Saudi diplomat Khalaf bin Mohammed Salem Al-Ali was shot while walking near his home in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He died three hours later at a hospital.

Bangladeshi authorities have said they have launched an intensive investigation surrounding the diplomat's death. The Kingdom has urged the Bangladeshi government to increase security for its staff in Bangladesh.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Dr. Nizar Madani personally contacted the brother of the deceased and conveyed to him and his family the condolences of Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal.

Arrangements are being made to repatriate the body to the Kingdom.
