KAUST announces partnerships with Stanford, Berkeley

March 5, 2008

King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) yesterday announced Academic Excellence Alliance partnerships with Stanford University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Through the Academic Excellence Alliance program, KAUST is enlisting the help of world-class academic departments to establish academic curriculums, nominate founding faculty and establish collaborative research direction for the new university.

The partnerships are with Stanford’s Applied Mathematics and Computational Science Department and Berkeley’s Mechanical Engineering Department.

By spring 2008, the Academic Excellence Alliance partners will have specified the KAUST core curriculum at a high level for prospective students and begun identifying the first group of KAUST founding faculty.

Located along the Red Sea 50 miles north of Jeddah in Thuwal, KAUST aims to be a world-class graduate research university that will support scientific discovery and human advancement. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz laid the foundation stone for the university in October 2007, and it is expected to open in September 2009.
