March 1, 2008
The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers held their 106th meeting in Riyadh today. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal led the Saudi delegation to the meeting, which was chaired by Qatari Foreign Minister Ahmed Al-Mahmoud.
In a joint statement issued after the closed-door meeting, the ministers said that they reviewed a range of Arab, regional and international issues. They discussed the GCC economic integration and reviewed a report by Secretary-General Abdulrahman Al-Attiyah on the Gulf common market.
Also today, GCC foreign ministers met with Yemeni Foreign Minister Abu Bakr Al-Qurabi to review areas of cooperation between the GCC and Yemen. The ministers expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved after the 2006 donors’ conference for Yemen in London. They urged a joint working group to step up efforts to establish a vision for Yemen’s cooperation with the GCC and to establish mechanisms to encourage private sector investment in Yemen.
