King Abdullah congratulates President Mubarak on reconciliation meeting

February 27, 2009

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has sent a letter to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, congratulating him for hosting a successful Palestinian reconciliation summit.

Representatives of the Palestinian Authority and Hamas held a meeting in Cairo yesterday, during which they agreed in principle to launch a dialogue.

King Abdullah praised the "historical role" played by Egypt in working towards Palestinian unity. He commended the actions of President Mubarak and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, as well as Hamas’ representatives.

King Abdullah stressed the importance of reconciliation to the future of the Palestinians, as well as the Arab and Islamic worlds in general. The latest success in Cairo, the King remarked, demonstrates "the dominance of dialogue over disagreement, logic over whim, and reason over ignorance."

King Abdullah expressed hope that the spirit of reconciliation will "find repercussions all over the world so that peoples will unite on a word that renounces evil, fights crime and terrorism, and calls for love and tolerance."
