KACST VP chairs 27th Meeting of COMSTECH Executive Committee

Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al-Saud, Vice-President of King Abdulaziz City for Sciences and Technology (KACST) for Research Institutes, chaired in Riyadh yesterday the first meeting for the Ministerial Council of the Executive Committee of the Standing Committee for Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH), an affiliate of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC). The meeting was attended by ministers of sciences and technology from the U.A.E., Bahrain, Syria, Sudan, Egypt, Yemen, Palestine, Pakistan, Senegal, Iran, Gambia, Malaysia, Burkina Faso and Benin.
During his remarks, Prince Turki underscored the importance of science and technology, saying that success in those fields constitutes the major source of economic development. It is an essential matter for Muslim countries to cooperate in those vital domains, he added, and praised the support given to COMSTECH by Islamic countries.
Afterwards, the participants reviewed a number of topics pertaining to the development of sciences and technology in the Muslim world, including the initiative of U.S. President Barack Obama to enhance cooperation between Muslim countries and the U.S. in those areas.
