GCC Foreign Ministers, Finance Ministers hold joint meeting

February 22, 2009

The Foreign Ministers’ Ministerial Council and the Financial and Economic Cooperation Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held a joint meeting in Riyadh today.

During the session, the Foreign and Finance Ministers of the GCC states agreed to establish a program for the reconstruction of Gaza, operated by a committee of Arab countries in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank.

Meanwhile, the GCC Ministerial Council issued a statement strongly denouncing the "hostile statements" made recently by a number of Iranian officials, aimed at "infringing on the sovereignty and independence of the Kingdom of Bahrain" and threatening its "Arab identity."

The Ministerial Council stressed that such statements are not consistent with the principles of good neighborliness, mutual respect and non-interference in internal affairs and called upon the Iranian government to denounce them.
