Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session

February 21, 2011

Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz chaired the Cabinet session held at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today. At the outset, he recounted the telephone calls the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz made last week to Jordanian King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, stressing that Saudi Arabia will support Jordan in all matters involving its interests, security and welfare. The Crown Prince also described the message he recently sent to Qatari Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.

The Cabinet listened to reports on regional and international developments, paying particular attention to the outcome of the 31st Meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) at its special session held in Manama. During the meeting, the GCC delegates offered their full support to Bahrain, noting that the security and stability of that country is essential. For its part, the Cabinet stressed that the Kingdom stands in all its capabilities behind Bahrain and its people.

On a separate topic, the Cabinet expressed the Kingdom’s regret over the veto used by the United States at the United Nations against an Arab resolution that would have condemned Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories, warning that this step encourages Israeli authorities to continue the policy of settlement-building and violating international resolutions.

Turning to domestic affairs, the Cabinet reviewed a number of scientific and cultural activities carried out by various ministries within the Kingdom. Specifically, the ministers lauded the organizing of an international exhibition and forum for general education in Riyadh by the Ministry of Education.

Addressing its weekly agenda, the Cabinet authorized the Interior Minister to sign a draft agreement with Syria in the field of prisoner transfers; approved the final accounts of the King Fahd National Library for fiscal year 1430-1431 H.; approved the Charter of the International Energy Forum (IEF) and authorized the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to sign it during the IEF ministerial meeting set to be held in Riyadh on 2/23/11; and approved the final accounts of the Saudi Development Fund for fiscal year 1428/1429 H.

The Cabinet also approved the appointments of Prince Abdulaziz bin Badar bin Saud bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud as Director General of the General Administration of Public Sources at the General Intelligence Presidency (15th rank); Saud bin Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sadhan as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Interior (14th rank); Adel bin Abdurrahman Bakhsh as Minister Plenipotentiary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qurashi as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (14th rank); Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al-Huzimi as Director General of Follow-up at the Ministry of Education (14th rank); and Nourah bint Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh as Director General of Female Social Supervision at the Ministry of Social Affairs (14th rank).
