Cisco to design network for King Abdullah Economic City

February 2, 2008

The San Jose-based tech giant Cisco Systems has been selected to design the infrastructure network for the King Abdullah Economic City.

According to a press release issued yesterday, the agreement was signed yesterday in the presence of Saudi Arabian Investment Authority (SAGIA) Governor Amr Al-Dabbagh and Cisco CEO John Chambers.

Cisco will provide consultancy and advisory services for KAEC and identify networking requirements for infrastructure-related services within the megaproject.

Located on the Red Sea coast in Rabigh, the King Abdullah Economic City is the single largest private sector development in the region. The megaproject is being developed by the UAE real estate company Emaar Properties, with SAGIA as the primary coordinator.

Last month, Cisco signed an agreement to establish a “smart city” at the Madinah Knowledge Economic City.
