International mining exhibition opens in Jeddah

January 24, 2008

The first international exhibition for Mineral Exploration and Applications (MENA-EX) opened at the Jeddah International Convention Center last night.

Around 190 companies from 16 countries are taking part in the four-day exhibition, some with their latest mining and geological equipment. It is supported by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Saudi Geological Survey, under the patronage of Makkah Governor Prince Khalid Al-Faisal.

The exhibition features a display of the Makkah-Madinah rail rink project, a high-speed passenger rail line that will connect the two cities via Jeddah. The 310-mile line will include five stations, two each in Makkah and Jeddah and one in Madinah. Once completed, the railway is expected to facilitate travel for pilgrims and positively impact the region’s economy.
