January 14, 2011
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has issued a directive ordering that a pair of Algerian conjoined twins be brought to the Kingdom for treatment. The girls, Sara and Ikram, will be treated at the King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC) in Riyadh, where they will first undergo an examination to determine if separation surgery is possible. According to Minister of Health Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, who heads a medical team specializing in the separation of conjoined twins, the case came to the attention of the King after the girls’ father sent an appeal for help. Currently, the Saudi Embassy in Algeria is coordinating travel plans for the twins, who are expected to arrive in the Kingdom in the coming weeks.
