January 10, 2008
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz met with Canadian Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier in Riyadh yesterday. Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal was also present.
In a joint press conference with Bernier after the meeting, Prince Saud welcomed the Saudi-Canadian meeting as a good opportunity for discussion on regional and international issues as well as bilateral cooperation.
Regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Saudi Arabia and Canada share similar views concerning the importance of reviving the peace process within the framework of the Arab Peace Initiative and the US-proposed Road Map for peace, Prince Saud said.
The two countries also discussed the crisis in Lebanon, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Iranian nuclear file, the prince noted.
Asked about the recent clash between Iran and the United States in the Arabian Gulf, Prince Saud urged all parties to exercise restraint. Irresponsible acts endanger the region and do not foster stability, he said.
