Euro-Med offers GCC observer status

The President of the European Parliament and Euro-Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) Yesterday offered Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states non-voting membership as observers in the EMPA, Arab News reported today.

Hans-Gert Pottering told a press conference following his meeting with Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal in Riyadh that the GCC’s growing economic and political influence of its member states could contribution to the development of the Mediterranean region.

Pottering said he hopes the GCC states would accepting his proposal at their next summit in Muscat, Oman, on December 29 and 30.
