Over 9,000 mosques at the holy sites refurbished

November 26, 2008

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has completed all of its projects for this year’s Hajj season, including the refurbishment of about 9,076 mosques at the holy sites, the Saudi Gazette has reported.

Copies of the Qur’an and prayer rugs have also been provided to the mosques. Three expert groups of technicians will work around the clock to ensure the smooth operation of infrastructure, including electricity and water delivery.

To avoid overcrowding and congestion, increasing the number of mosques at the holy sites was a priority for the Kingdom. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has built 150 new mosques and assigned 880 imams to the holy areas for this Hajj season.
