Prince Saud Al-Faisal addresses Arab foreign ministers

November 26, 2008

The ministerial council of the Arab League’s foreign ministers started its extraordinary session today in Cairo under the chairmanship of Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal. The meeting focused largely on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

During his remarks, Prince Saud noted that the election of a new U.S. president requires Arab countries to explain and clarify their position with regard to the conflict.

Taking into account that the U.S. is the primary sponsor of the peace process and its principal mediator, he said, the Arab world should be keenly interested in the formulation of the next administration’s policies.

Prince Saud stressed the importance of both Palestinian and Arab unity during peace negotiations.

He welcomed the growing international interest, especially in Europe and the U.S., towards reaching a just settlement.
