King Abdullah arrives in Washington

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz arrived in Washington Friday to participate in the G-20 economic summit.


He was welcomed at the airport by US Vice President Dick Cheney, Prince Turki al-Faisal, Prince Abdullah bin Sultan bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, several US officials, and members of the Saudi Embassy in Washington.

King Abdullah was accompanied by Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, Prince Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, and a number of senior officials.

On Friday evening, the King met at his guest residence with a group of Saudi students studying in the US.

During the meeting, the King announced a 50 percent increase in student stipends. "You are representing your homeland," he told them. "I ask you to hold fast to peacefulness and serenity." King Abdullah then received gifts from the Saudi students. He thanked them and expressed his appreciation, saying "You are my gift. May God bless you all."

The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, Minister of Finance Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf, Saudi Ambassador to the US Adel A. Al-Jubeir, Saudi Cultural Attaché to U.S. Dr. Mohammed Al-Eisa and a number of high-level officials.
