Saudi Foreign Minister holds press conference with UN Secretary-General

Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal held a joint press conference with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon on Thursday.

Prince Saud praised the strong international support extended to the interfaith dialogue process initiated by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

The initiative, he noted, began with a Muslim scholars’ conference in Makkah, continued in Madrid with participants of all cultures and religions and culminated in this week’s UN interfaith conference.

Prince Saud called for the establishment of a committee on interfaith dialogue, a measure proposed by King Abdullah. Such an effort would increase understanding and encourage people to "work together for harmony and peace and not for confrontation," he said.

For his part, Ban observed, "King Abdullah’s initiative has come at a time when the need for dialogue among religions, cultures and civilizations has never been greater. It has brought together people who might not otherwise have a chance to interact."
