December 27, 2010
A man killed Friday in a shootout with Saudi security forces at a checkpoint in Al-Muthallath in Wadi Al-Duwaser was a wanted al-Qaida operative, an Interior Ministry spokesman has confirmed. Mohammed Essam Taher Al-Baghdadi, a Saudi national, was wanted for his affiliation with al-Qaida and his involvement in criminal activities.
The incident occurred when a car carrying two men, one of whom was disguised as a woman, was stopped at the checkpoint. When asked for their identification papers, the man dressed as a woman – identified as Al-Baghdadi – stepped out of the car and opened fire. Security forces returned fire, killing the gunman, and arrested the other individual.
