Crown Prince Sultan chairs Cabinet session

Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh today by offering assurances that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, who underwent successful surgery in New York last week, is doing extremely well. The ministers wished the King a speedy recovery and a safe trip home. Then Crown Prince Sultan welcomed Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, the new Minister of State and Commander of the National Guard, to the Cabinet, wishing him success.
The Cabinet reviewed a number of reports on Arab and international developments. On the occasion of the Global Day for Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on November 29th, the Cabinet renewed the Kingdom’s commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and highlighted the peaceful initiatives put forth by the Kingdom to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict.
Turning to domestic issues, the ministers praised the efforts exerted by the governmental and non-governmental sectors to make this year’s Hajj season run smoothly. The Cabinet noted the success of the security services in foiling attempts by deviant groups to mount operations inside of the Kingdom and to exploit the Hajj and Umrah seasons to achieve their objectives.
Addressing its weekly business, the Cabinet approved the amendments to the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material pursuant to Royal Decree No. M/40, dated 12/07/1429H.; approved increasing the amount of monthly remunerations for students on scholarships in Japan by 15% of their current allowance; authorized the Director General of Saudi Customs to sign a draft memorandum of understanding with the World Customs Organization on approving a Customs Training Institute in the Kingdom; and approved the final documents of the Regional Radio-communication Conference held in Geneva in 2006.
The Cabinet approved the appointments of Ali Al-Khalifa as Civil Consulting Engineer at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation; Abdullah Al-Harthy as Director General of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Education; Abdullah Al-W’allan as Director General of Administrative and Financial Affairs at the General Presidency of Youth Welfare; Saleh Al-Ghamdi as Oil Adviser at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources; and Abdullah Al-Nafisah as Director General of the Riyadh Province Branch at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. All the appointments were made at the 14th rank.
