November 26, 2010
A spokesman of the Ministry of Interior announced today that over the past eight months, Saudi security forces have apprehended 149 individuals linked to terrorist activities. The suspects, which included 124 Saudi nationals, were organized into 19 cells operating in a number of the Kingdom’s regions. Receiving instructions and guidance from foreign extremists, the cell members were in the advanced stages of planning attacks against security forces, government officials, media figures and expatriates. During the arrests, weapons and documents were seized, as well as SR 2,244,620 [$598,473.50]. Furthermore, legal measures to bring suspects operating outside of the Kingdom to justice were taken through Interpol.
Following the arrests, the Interior Ministry vowed to continue its aggressive counterterrorism efforts and called upon deviant elements to surrender to the authorities.
