King undergoes successful back surgery

The Royal Court has issued a statement reporting that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz successfully underwent back surgery today at the King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC)’s National Guard Hospital. According to the statement, the operation to loosen a conjoined cord in the King’s upper back was performed at 3:15 a.m. this morning.

Following the operation, the King was visited by a number of senior officials and family members, including Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz; Prince Khalid bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz; Commander of the National Guard Prince Miteb bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz; Vice Foreign Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz; and Najran Governor Prince Mishaal bin Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

Crown Prince Salman received several telephone calls and messages today from foreign leaders offering their congratulations to the King on his successful surgery. The officials included Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; Kuwaiti Heir Apparent Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah; Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa; Bahraini Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa; Turkish President Abdullah Gul; and Jordan’s King Abdullah II.
