Crown Prince chairs Cabinet session (9/16/13)

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz began the Cabinet session at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah this afternoon with a briefing on the latest developments in the region and the world. In particular, the ministers focused on the Syrian crisis and the international initiatives aimed at dealing with it. They renewed the Kingdom’s call for the world community to take effective action to immediately stop the fighting and to provide protection for the Syrian people. Furthermore, they advocated the enhancement of support for the Syrian opposition, which faces ruthless attacks from a regime that favors extremist movements and threatens regional security.
Next, the Cabinet commended the statement issued by 128th session of the Council of Ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which summarized the commitment of the GCC states towards joint action, as well as their shared positions on international events.
Turning to local affairs, the Cabinet reviewed the proceedings of the seventh Souq Okaz, which was launched under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. It also discussed a report on the conclusion of the Umrah (minor pilgrimage) season, during which more than five million people successfully completed the rites. Finally, the ministers reminded all expatriates in violation of residence and work regulations to take advantage of the extension of the grace period and correct their legal status.
Addressing its remaining agenda items, the Cabinet authorized the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives to sign a draft memorandum of cooperation with the Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al-Qasimi Foundation for Gulf Studies in Sharjah, UAE; approved the security agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries approved by the GCC Supreme Council at its 33rd session; approved the Developed General Framework of Population Strategy of the Gulf Cooperation Council; authorized the Minister of Transport to discuss a draft cooperation agreement between Saudi Arabia and Germany in the field of maritime transport; and approved the application of the “Objectives, Concepts and Standards of Governmental Accounting” manual prepared by the work team formed to develop the governmental accounting system.
